Brentwood, Tennessee is a medium-sized city in portions of Williamson and Davidson County. It is a suburb of Nashville, has about ten neighborhoods and is approximately the 17th largest community in the state. The community is known for its beautiful landscape of rolling hills and lush green foliage. It is a family friendly community with a high percentage of single family homes, high rates of home ownership, good schools and low crime rates. It has a humid subtropical climate where summers are hot and humid and winters are mild. The city motto is “Ardens Fide” which means burning faith. It is a wealthy community compared to state and national statistics. It is a semi-diverse community full of charm and warmth. English is the primary language in the city, followed by Spanish and Chinese. It is an educated community, over 70% of adults in Brentwood have four-year degrees or more, which is about three times the national average.

The first inhabitants of the area were native tribes known as Mound Indians or Stone Box Indians. White settlers arrived in the late 18th century and several historic homes from the area’s early history still stand today. The first businesses in the area were located along what is presently known as Old Smyrna Road and included a general store, post office, grist mill and more. After the Civil War, more lands were purchased in the area and small farms developed here and there on the landscape. Growth in the community was slow until the 1960s when residential development began. I-65 came through the community in 1966-67 and in 1969 it was officially incorporated as a city.

The city spans 34.7 square miles and is definitively a white-collar community where over 94% of the workforce is white-collar in nature. It is kind of unusual, but more than 8.5% of the workforce works from home via telecommuting, freelance efforts, and home-based businesses. In 2010, the population was 37,060 and the population density was 676.7 people per square mile. An estimate from 2016 put the population at approximately 42,517. In 2015, the estimated median household income was $151,110 and the estimated per capita income was $68,070. In the same year, the estimated median house or condo value was $551,760, the mean price on all housing units was $449,796 and the median gross rent $2,326. According to the 2015 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, the top five employers in the city were Hospital Corporation of America, Comdata, Tractor Supply Company, Brookdale Senior Living, and Davita.

Public education is primarily provided by the schools of the Williamson County School District. Local schools include Crockett Elementary School, Woodland Middle School, Ravenswood High School, Brentwood High School and many others. Brentwood has thirteen city parks encompassing more than 960 acres and twenty miles of biking and walking trails. For example, Concord Park spans 400 acres, Deerwood Arboretum and Nature Area spans 27 acres and Maryland Way Park spans seven acres. The parks feature a variety of amenities such as playgrounds, open green areas, pools, sports courts and fields and more. Homes for sale range from first-time buyer homes through luxury properties.
